Women’s health, fertility & hormones

Women’s bodies are fantastically unique and always changing. Nutrition plays an important role at every life stage to achieve optimal health, for example when trying to conceive or through the menopause. We used to think women’s health changes and symptoms were all about the ovaries, but now we know that the gut microbiome plays a pivotal role via the gut-hormone axis.

With pregnancy, we can help you optimise your nutritional status before, during and after pregnancy including advice about nutritional supplements as well as pregnancy on a vegan diet. We also support women with pregnancy-associated constipation, nausea and heartburn, and provide weight management and gestational diabetes advice.

With conditions like PCOS, which affect approximately 10% of women globally, a dietitian will help you to develop a diet plan consistent with a low GI diet that is balanced. By reducing swings in blood sugar, it may also help to make physical activity more effective.

The menopause is a natural part of ageing and officially is said to occur when a woman has stopped periods for 12 consecutive months. In the UK, the average age for a woman to reach menopause is around 51 years of age. We know that diet and lifestyle plays an important role not only in determining the age at which the natural menopause can occur (along with other factors such as genetics, environment and others) but also can also contribute to diversity of the gut microbiome including oestrobolome which has a direct effect on estrogen levels and vice versa impacting the natural menopause.

Our fertility, hormone and menopause dietitian experts can support you through every stage of life, so get in touch if you’d like to book a consultation!
